Rainwater Harvesting – Direct System
The direct system can be used for domestic and commercial applications.
The system uses a submersible pump to supply the water directly to the various applications.
In case of rainwater shortage, the system switches automatically to mains water and supplies water into the underground storage tank. It uses an AA type air gap as required in the Water Supply (Water fittings) Regulations 1999 to ensure that the pump does not run dry. If required, a water level indicator for the underground tank can be added.
The major advantage of this system is the high pressure that can be provided to the applications, especially for irrigation purposes.
The overflowing water should be drained into a soak away if possible (as shown in the picture).
