Primary Schools, High Schools, Academies, Colleges and Universities have all benefited greatly from the use of this cost effective, simple technology and the majority of these projects will be seeing a payback in a relatively short time period.
The majority of building types within this sector will lend themselves very well to the use of Rainwater Harvesting – large building footprints will allow the collection of substantial quantities of Rainwater from the roof of the building. Couple the potential collection volume of Rainwater with the substantial requirement for toilet flushing water within these buildings and you can start to see the opportunity for many buildings in this sector to be almost self sufficient by producing as much Rainwater as will be required for flushing.
The increasingly popular technology of Greywater Recycling is ideal for buildings in the education sector where production of large volumes of Greywater (bath & shower water) are discharged currently to waste but instead could be Harvested for re-use.
This would include educationally based residential buildings such as Student Accommodation and Boarding Schools and educational buildings with leisure/sports facilities where shower facility is included.

Therefore, educating the future generation and shaping their future mindset will undoubtedly have a bigger impact on future water consuming habits in the UK and will provide the reductions needed to counteract the predicted shortfalls the water industry is currently discussing.
