Only the top 1% of UK buildings ever achieve BREEAM Outstanding status. In 2023, London’s skyline welcomed its tallest commercial building to reach this prestigious milestone: 8 Bishopsgate in the Square Mile.
Standing at an impressive 50 storeys (204 metres), this iconic structure isn’t just a marvel of modern architecture—it’s a true masterclass in sustainability.
But how did it secure that coveted “Outstanding” rating? Part of the secret lies in highly innovative water reuse management.
To drastically reduce mains water consumption, 8 Bishopsgate utilises Aquality’s advanced water reuse technologies:
- Rainwater Harvesting: The attenuation infrastructure also serves as rainwater storage, allowing captured rainwater to be filtered and reused without the need for dedicated harvesting tanks—saving both space and capital cost
- Greywater Recycling: Wastewater from showers and wash hand basins is biologically treated and recycled for WC flushing, supplying up to 30,000 litres of recycled non-potable water each day
