We are thrilled to share that Aquality’s advanced rainwater harvesting and combined attenuation tank system has helped the University of Lancashire’s new School of Veterinary Medicine achieve BREEAM Excellent status!

As one of only two vet schools in the North of England, and one of just 11 in the entire UK, this state-of-the-art £40 million facility has already begun training the next generation of veterinary professionals.

Driving Sustainability Through Collaboration

Delivering a highly technical, forward-thinking building requires a tremendous team effort. We were therefore incredibly proud to collaborate with Ameon and Hoare Lea, working on behalf of the main contractor Morgan Sindall Construction.

Real Data, Real Impact

Our integrated water reuse system is already proving its worth! Early data reveals that the school has achieved a significant 25% reduction in mains water usage. Not only does this drastically ease long-term pressure on local water supplies, but it also translates into massive, long-term savings on water utility bills for the university.

The Power of a Combined Attenuation Tank

How does it work? Our bespoke dual-purpose tank maximises both physical space and environmental performance by handling two critical jobs at once:

1. Water Reuse: Captures and stores rainwater from toilet flushing.

2. Flood Mitigation: Acts as an active Sustainable Drainage System (SuDS), capturing peak storm run-off and releasing excess water into the public network at a slow and controlled rate to protect the local area from flash flooding.

A massive thank you to everyone involved in making this landmark development a benchmark for intelligent water management.
